The contract for the Stoke Newington Pumping Station project was awarded by Thames Water Utilities Ltd. in December 1992 and completed in August 1993. It covered supply and installation of new pumps and all associated mechanical, electrical, control and monitoring equipment.
Located in north London, the re-equipped pumping station forms part of the prestigious London Water Ring Main system and provides the above ground services in the Lee Valley area.
The new plant was installed close to the historic listed building of the Victorian pumping works, next to one of the new ring main shafts.
A key feature of this project was provision (by BBL) of the latest
"state-of-the-art" monitoring and control systems serving both Stoke Newington and the main SCADA control room at Coppermills WTW.
Pumping Plant Two horizontal split case centrifugal pump sets, each capable of delivering 260 l/s, complete with fusion bonded epoxy coated pipework and electrically actuated control valves.
Plant Control and Monitoring Fully automatic plant control and monitoring serving both Stoke Newington and the main SCADA control room located at Coppermills WTW. Interface with the existing fibre optics communications network includes connections to the existing shaft control system and new graphic screens in the main control room.
Electrical Works New multi-compartment motor control centre installed together with pumping station lighting, small power and fire protection system.
Surge Suppression Surge suppression vessel connected to the pump suction manifold complete with pipework, valves and compressed air supply. The vessel was manufactured in accordance with BS5500 category 2 with full insurance certification.
