The SBR Process
The SBR is a batch activated sludge process which incorporates primary settlement, activated sludge treatment and final clarification all in a single tank. This reduces the overall footprint of the plant and simplifies process control.
The SBR process uses three basic steps:
Fill/Aerate - Raw sewage is combined with mixed liquor from the aeration zone in the biological selector. It then flows into the aeration tank where oxygen is added and biological treatment occurs.
Settle - The flow into the plant is stopped and the suspended biomass is allowed to settle.
Decant - Clear, treated effluent is decanted out of the tank, leaving the biomass in the aeration zone.
The whole sequence normally takes four hours but a three-hour operation can be used during short periods of high flow.
Biorate Process
The air flow is controlled by the BIORATE control system which monitors dissolved oxygen, level and temperature within each tank. This approach optimises the biological reactions (particularly denitrification within the floc), whilst minimising the process air requirements and thus reducing power consumption.
Energy Efficiency and Low Maintenance
Standard Naston SBR packages have the benefit of durable stainless steel construction. With reliable and robust pump and air blower, standby equipment is not necessary, reducing costs and further simplifying maintenance.
Naston Guarantee
Naston Ltd will warrant the process performance and quality of the plant and equipment supplied. This warranty is valid for 18 months from the date of delivery.
